Microwave Reactor

About Instrument

Microwave reactors (CEM Discover) open avenues for a wide range of conditions and variables to be investigated. The reactions can be run up to 300°C and 300 psi in 10-mL to 80-mL sealed vessels. Additionally, open-vessel reactions can be run using conventional round bottom flasks (up to 125 mL) equipped with a reflux condenser.

Capabilities

  • Reactions can be performed at variable temperature from RT to 300 oC. Pressure upto 300 psi can be applied depending on the reaction.
  • Takes a very small time (several seconds) to reach the desired reaction temperature. This time can also be set according to need.
  • Magnetic stirring during reaction for uniform heating is available.

Sample type

*Reaction can only be performed in solution state.

Sample state Required sources
Liquid/solution <10> 10 ml vial with cap, rice grain magnetic bead

Applications

Used for rapid and high yield synthesis of varied class of materials- organic, inorganic, Metal-organic frameworks, nanomaterials etc.

RF-DC Magnetron Sputtering Unit

About Instrument

RF / DC Magnetron Sputtering (APT) can coat thin films of metals, semiconductors and oxides. It is also designed to coat thin film multi-layers. The vacuum production is based on turbo molecular pump capable of producing vacuum up to 1x10^6 Torr. The system is designed for sputter-up configuration. One can use two magnetron cathodes (size of each sputtering target is 2 inches) with possibility of both RF and DC operations. Rotatable substrate holder is capable of holding substrates of sizes from one cm to one inch diameter and substrate heating up to 800 C is also possible. The distance between the substrate holder and sputtering source is adjustable. The system has two mass flow controllers, one for argon and the other for nitrogen / oxygen. One can do reactive sputtering also.

Zeta Potential & Nano Particle Sizer (DLS-Zeta )

About Instrument

The Zetasizer Nano ZSP (ZEN 5600) is used for the measurement of particle size upto 0.3 nm, zeta potential ofnanoparticles and surfaces.

Capabilities

  • It can be used to obtain the size distribution of particles in a given sample.
  • Unlike TEM, which is a drying process, it is a wet process and gives the actual hydrodynamic size of particles.
  • Zeta potential measurement can tell whether the surface of the particles is positively or negatively charged.

Sample Type

Sample state Sample quantity
Powder/ Liquid

For powder sample, minimum 2-5 mg must be supplied and solvent to be used to disperse must clearly be mentioned.

For liquid sample minimum 1 mL must be supplied.

Applications

  • Determination of hydrodynamic size of the particles especially nanoparticles.
  • Determination of surface charge on materials.
  • Used by engineers, chemists, biologists, Pharmacists.
